The washi is produced in Tokigawa Town, a region with a rich papermaking tradition dating back to the 8th century. Known as Musashi or Ogawa washi, the paper flourished in western Saitama, driven by the demand from Edo (modern-day Tokyo), establishing the area as a key hub for paper production.
The lampshade, crafted from this washi, incorporates soil from the fields where the mulberry plants are grown, giving it a distinctive texture. Its double-layered structure beautifully enhances the washi’s texture when illuminated, while maintaining a harmonious design.
The wooden spindle, made from oak, is shaped using woodworking techniques perfected in Hida-Takayama.
