These black stoneware vases are inspired by the vegetal forms of seed pods. They are almost flat and two-dimensional, like silhouettes, dark shadows. Glossy, glazed areas overlay the bare clay, creating additional shadow-like patterns—projections of leaves, flowers, and fruits painted onto the surface as if they were shadows cast on a wall.
Each time I create artistic ceramics, I confront the beauty of nature’s organic forms. Life holds an incredible power within itself. It exists only here, unexpectedly, on this rare and precious Earth, with no trace of it for light-years around. The shadows painted on these vases are an omen of misfortune—a memory of a nature that, due to our actions, dies every day before our more or less conscious eyes.
