These black stoneware vases are inspired by the plant-like forms of seed pods. They are almost flat and two-dimensional, resembling silhouettes or black shadows.
On the raw, unglazed surface, there are glossy, glazed areas that create additional shadow-like patterns—projections of leaves, flowers, and fruits, painted onto the surface as if they were shadows cast on a wall.
Whenever I create artistic ceramics, I find myself in dialogue with the beauty of nature’s organic forms, because life holds an incredible power within itself. It exists only here, unexpectedly, on this rare and precious Earth—and for light-years around, there is no trace of it.
The painted shadows on these vases are an omen of misfortune, a reminder of a nature that is dying because of us, every day, right before our more or less conscious eyes.
